The Corowa line branches out from Culcairn on the Main Southern Line. The Culcairn to Corowa railway line opened in October 1892. It passes through towns and location such as Walla Walla and Burrumbuttock.

Walla Walla is supposedly an Aboriginal word for ‘plenty of rain’.

The name Corowa comes form the Aboriginal the word 'currawa', meaning either 'rocky river' or referring to the curra pine which was once found in abundance in the area and which furnished gum for the indigenous people's spears.
