At 10.15am on Saturday November 17 2001, the First Official Electric Train ran between Dapto and Kiama on the South Coast Line. The train, V29 consisted of carriages DJM 8125, DIT 9184, DKT 9191 and DKM 8145.

Paper mesh banners were placed between stanchions at the following locations: Dapto 94.838km and Kiama 119.046km. These distances are measured from Sydney Terminal. 

The fronts of DJM 8125 and DKM 8145 have been repainted orange and blue with 'Intercity' in white writing. The external carriage numbers have also been reapplied in black. Yellow safety stripes were also applied on the door frames.
