This line branches out from Temora on the Cootamundra to Lake Cargelligo Line and connects with Roto on the Main Western Line. It passes through towns and locations such as Ariah Park, Ardlethan, Barellan, Griffith and Hillston. The only station on this line to currently receive a passenger train is Griffith, however, the weekly train to Griffith runs via Cootamundra, Junee and Narrandera. The main traffic on the line these days are wheat and general freight trains.

Ariah Park is located 34 kilometres north-west of Temora. The small town’s major claim to fame is that it was here that the NSW Railways launched its first bulk-wheat loading operation in 1916. The historic event is duly recorded on a plaque adorning an old S-truck wagon parked on a town siding.

Ardlethan means 'hilly' in Gaelic. The town's one major claim to fame is its contention that it is the birthplace of the Australian kelpie breed of sheep dog. A bronze memorial in Stewart Park and the Kelpie Dog Festival, which is held each March, celebrates this fact.

Barellan is home to the great Australian Aboriginal tennis player, Evonne Goolagong (now Evonne Cawley), was born here.

The railway to Griffith opened in 1916. The town of Griffith was named after Arthur Griffith who was the NSW Minister for Public Works (1910-1915). The Griffith to Hillston railway opened in 1923.

Roto was once an important railway station or siding on the main line from Sydney to Broken Hill. There was a small township situated at the rail junction, but the only remnants are derelict hall, a disused weighbridge and this abandoned water tank and tanker.
