The railway line from Cootamundra to Tumut was completed in 1903 and extended to Batlow in 1923. The line,  which arrived in Gundagai in 1886, was abandoned when floods damaged sections near Cootamundra in 1984.  There has been some talk of the line being re-opened, however significant sections have been destroyed by the Hume Highway upgrading.
