A tramway connected Yass to Yass Junction when it was decided that the Main South line would not run through Yass. Passenger services started on 22 April 1892 and ceased on May 17, 1958. The line is no longer in use, however the station in the town is now the Yass Railway Museum. They have plans to use a section of the branch line for tourism. The Station Building (built in 1891) has undergone renovation and is now part of the Yass Railway Museum, which has the shortest platform in Australia. CountryLink runs daily trains between Sydney and Melbourne which stop at Yass Junction.
